More Trouble in Philadelphia

“Would you respond to this appeal?

I’ve received a letter from the Philadelphia Orchestra, urging me to offer financial support in these difficult times. Although couched in the smarmiest PR-speak and promising a wonderful future, everything about the letter is wrong. It announces that the company has sought bankruptcy protection and is therefore in deep trouble. It announces no change of management or policy or anything. It is therefore asking me to throw good money after bad.

Playing Cello – ein kleiner Rückblick: Klangdrang, Skulpturengarten und Kammermusik mit Harfe

Die Stimmung offen und warm, die Kirche märzwinterkalt, das musikalische Ergebnis nicht vorhersehbar, aber höchst spannend und inspirierend – so war “Klangdrang” für mich.

In der Reihe “Tonleiter” im Skulpturengarten von Tony Cragg zu spielen ist eine Ehre … Bericht in der WZ hier, die Konzertankündigung der Cragg Foundation hier (pdf).

Und schließlich ein Einspringerjob, der es in sich hatte: Takemitsu “A Way A Lone” – gewidmet den Menschen in Japan, dann spektakuläre Stücke für Streichquartett und Harfe von Tournier und Debussy und schließlich das g-moll-Quartett von Debussy. Die WZ schreibt darüber hier.
